About the Department

Overview

Established in 1963, the Department of Civil Engineering at MSRIT is one of the oldest and most prestigious departments in the institution. The department offers B.E., M.Tech. (Structural Engineering, Highway Technology) and doctoral programmes, led by highly qualified faculty with decades of combined teaching and research experience. A recognised VTU research hub, it guides doctoral research and has gained national and international recognition for its contributions. The department also hosts a HUDCO chair focused on sustainable, low-cost construction. The department uses standardised, autonomous teaching methods, like flipped classes and blended learning, alongside industry-sponsored labs and expert lectures. Following Outcome-Based Education principles, the eight-semester programme includes mandatory projects, internships and industrial visits, with continuous improvement based on industry needs.
