Bio
Dr. T. P. Krishna Murthy (TPK) is a multidisciplinary researcher, educator, and academic mentor with over 15 years of experience in Bioprocess Engineering and allied fields. He holds a Ph.D. and M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering and a B.E. in Biotechnology Engineering, and currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. His academic work brings together biotechnology, engineering, computation, and sustainability, with a focus on developing practical and data-driven solutions to contemporary challenges. He has published 80+ research articles and book chapters, with an h-index of 23, i10-index of 40, and more than 2,500 citations. Dr. TPK is actively involved in teaching, research, curriculum development, student mentoring, academic leadership, industry collaboration, and science communication. He is also the Founder and Educator of Openevarsity®, an initiative focused on technology-enabled learning in biotechnology and allied disciplines. Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Murthy is actively engaged in student mentoring, curriculum development, academic leadership, industry collaboration, and science communication. He has served on the Department Advisory Board and Board of Studies, coordinated student academic and career-development activities, and served as Faculty Advisor for SRIGEN and Editor-in-Chief of Progenitor, the Department of Biotechnology magazine.

Dr. TPK's research interests lie at the intersection of Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology, Computational Science, and Sustainability. His major research areas include:
- Food & Bioprocess Engineering – Fermentation, extraction of bioactive compounds, probiotics, prebiotics, process modelling, simulation, and optimization.
- Waste Valorisation & Circular Bioeconomy – Conversion of food and agricultural waste into value-added products and sustainable resources.
- Computational Biotechnology & Bioinformatics – Computational screening, molecular docking, molecular dynamics, and data-driven approaches in biotechnology and drug discovery.
- Sustainable Agriculture – Biomass utilization, agro-waste valorisation, regenerative agriculture, microbial technologies, and sustainable agro-industrial systems.
- Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals – Development and evaluation of functional foods, beverages, prebiotics, probiotics, and bioactive ingredients.
- Environmental Biotechnology – Adsorption, remediation, nanomaterials, and sustainable approaches for environmental applications.
- Process Modelling, Simulation & Optimization – Application of engineering tools, Design of Experiments (DoE), statistical modelling, and process simulation to biotechnology and bioprocess development.
Teaching
As an educator, Dr. TPK has taught courses across Industrial Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, Bioprocess Modelling and Simulation, Bioinformatics, Metabolic Engineering, Design of Experiments, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Design Thinking, and Scientific Writing and Communication. He has also contributed to the development and revision of courses for undergraduate and postgraduate biotechnology programmes.
His technical expertise includes SuperPro Designer®, Design-Expert®, JMP®, Minitab®, MATLAB®, OriginPro®, Microsoft Excel®, LaTeX, Python, and bioinformatics and molecular modelling tools. He applies these tools in process simulation, modelling, optimization, statistical analysis, data-driven research, and scientific communication.
