SRIGEN – Society for Biotechnologists

SRIGEN (Society for Biotechnologists) is a student-led professional society established under the Department of Biotechnology, M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology, with the aim of providing students with a platform to engage in academic, professional, technical, and co-curricular activities beyond the regular classroom environment. The society encourages students to explore emerging areas of biotechnology, develop professional skills, collaborate with peers, and actively participate in the broader biotechnology community.

SRIGEN serves as a forum for knowledge sharing, professional interaction, student engagement, and experiential learning. The society regularly organizes technical talks, guest lectures, workshops, hands-on training programmes, seminars, and other academic events featuring experts from industry, research organizations, and academia. These activities provide students with opportunities to interact with professionals and researchers and gain insights into emerging technologies, current trends, career opportunities, research developments, and real-world applications in biotechnology and allied disciplines.

The society also encourages students to take an active role in planning and organizing events, thereby providing valuable experience in leadership, teamwork, communication, event management, networking, and professional engagement. A key initiative of SRIGEN is Progenitor, the annual magazine of the Department of Biotechnology. The magazine provides a platform for students to showcase their creative and scientific writing, technical articles, research perspectives, artwork, and other talents. It reflects the academic interests, creativity, and achievements of the student community while fostering a culture of scientific communication and expression.
